Greetings from your Chairwoman

Hello and Greetings from Tri Cities!

My name is Cedar and I was recently elected as your new Chairwoman. It’s an exciting honor to hold this position and I hope that over the next 2 years I am able to serve you well.

I’ll admit that I’m new to politics. As such, I’ve found myself several wonderful mentors. One of these mentors, Jay Clough, frequently reminds me of this:

At the end of the day, our job is to get Democrats elected.

I try to keep that always in the forefront on my mind as the democratic party works on grieving its recent losses and finding the best ways to move forward.

In the coming months, it will be incumbent upon us to work harder than we ever have, to knock on more doors, to make more phone calls and to raise more money. We’ll need a coordinated effort to defeat Newhouse in the midterms and to elect as many down ballot  Democrats as we possibly can. From Dog Catcher to School Board, City Council to Congress, we want to see Democrats in every position in every town and county throughout the 4th CD. By doing this, we will accomplish the following:

  • Identify good candidates for future races
  • Assist those people in gaining experience in elected office
  • Help build name recognition and community relationships with those candidates
  • Build our larger bench as the Democratic party.

This is marathon, not a sprint. We’re taking the long view.

At the end of the day, our job is to get Democrats elected.

In the link at the end of this post, you will find a treasure trove, a gold mine of information. It lists every office in every county in the state that is up for election in 2017.

Please, take a moment to:

  • Study this spreadsheet.
  • Look up your county and town
  • Find out what offices will be open and consider running!

YES. YOU!!
And if not you, then someone you know.

And be sure to notice the filing date deadlines.
You can do it.      We can help.

Share this document, and share this strategy with other Democrats.

Together, across the 4th, we CAN get Democrats Elected!! We CAN rebuild our party. We CAN take back our nation.

We can do it!!  I believe in us.

Thank you for your time, your energy and your service.  I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting on May 6th.

2016 Caucus Information

To find your caucus site and pre-register:  Pre-Register

What is a Caucus?  A caucus is a local meeting, divided up by precincts, where people can express a presidential preference and choose delegates that may attend the national convention in July of 2016 and actually select the Democratic presidential nominee.

Who can attend the Caucus?  Anyone can participate, but voting is limited to registered voters in their voting precinct who consider themselves Democrats.  If you are 17 years old and will be turning 18 on or before election day, November 8, 2016, and will be registering to vote, you will be eligible to vote in the caucus.

Where to Caucus?
You can click on the 2016 Democratic Precinct Caucus Sites and download a PDF that lists all the caucus sites in the area.

What if I cannot attend the Caucus?  The Washington State Delegate Selection Plan allows registered voters who cannot attend their caucus due to religious observance, military service, work schedule, disability or illness to complete and submit a Surrogate Affidavit from to the State Party.  The completed form must be received by the State Party on or before 5:00 p.m. on March 18, 2016.

For more information, please visit the Washington State Democrats’ 2016 Caucus page.

A Message From the Chair

With the final day of the election less than one week away, it is important that we persist in our efforts to get out the vote.
Not having a Congressional candidate to support does not mean that we should be discouraged. Democrats who are running for county and state offices need our support. There are vital issues on the ballot to be decided and judicial candidates to be elected. We need to continue to encourage voters to vote for progressive candidates. When the WA 4th CD Democratic Committee meets on November 15 at the Richland Public Library at 1:00 p.m. we will have the opportunity to elect new leadership and set new goals. All Democrats in the 4th CD are welcome to attend.
Please join us as we map out a new future for Central Washington.
